Last month, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming some very special passengers on board; a group of young legends taking part in the annual Kyle’s Camp, organised by the incredible team at the Kyle Andrews Foundation Inc.
As part of their unforgettable week in Broome, we were proud to donate scenic helicopter flights over the stunning Willie Creek coastline, giving the kids a sky-high adventure they’ll never forget. Soaring above the turquoise waters and winding tidal flats, their excitement was contagious (and the smiles said it all!).
But this wasn’t just about the view from the top; it was about courage, connection, and creating moments that matter.
A Legacy That Takes Flight
Kyle’s Camp lies at the heart of the Foundation’s mission; a living tribute to Kyle Andrews, a young Broome local who, while undergoing treatment for cancer, dreamed of bringing other children facing serious illness to experience the healing power of Broome.
As Camp Leader Georgia Lafferty explains, “It’s not just a camp; it’s a powerful reminder of Kyle’s compassion, courage, the generosity of the Broome community and the chance to heal through connection and adventure.”
From humble beginnings, Kyle’s dream has grown into a much-loved annual tradition, welcoming children from across Western Australia for a week filled with laughter, friendship, and unforgettable experiences. Over time, the Foundation has expanded to include other events like the Gibb Challenge, Kyle’s Walk, and even Foundation-owned properties in Broome, Perth and Busselton for community use.
This Year’s Camp Highlights
This year’s Kyle’s Camp brought together a wonderful group of 16 kids, aged 12 to 18, supported by two nurses and a physical therapist from Perth Children’s Hospital. The week was packed with unforgettable experiences, from beach days of surfing and boogie-boarding, to cruising aboard the Great Escape, and of course, the mesmerising helicopter flights over Willie Creek.
“The helicopter flights were magical,” says Georgia. “For many of the kids, it was their first time in a helicopter, and seeing the creek’s turquoise waters and white sands from above was awe-inspiring.”
It was more than a scenic helicopter flight; it was a chance to step outside their comfort zones and embrace adventure. “Quite a few of the kids were so proud of themselves for going on the scenic helicopter flight,” she shared. “Many said it was a little scary at first, but they loved the opportunity to try something new and even claimed to have spotted crocodiles from the air!”
A Week That Stays with Them
More than just a getaway, Kyle’s Camp gives children undergoing treatment a rare and precious gift: the chance to simply be kids again. Through every activity and shared moment, they’re reminded that they’re not alone, and that an entire community stands behind them.
“We hope they leave feeling empowered, supported and that they are now a part of the Kyle Andrews family,” says Georgia. “Most of all, we want them to remember how it feels to smile, to belong, and to simply be kids.”
How You Can Help
The incredible work of the Kyle Andrews Foundation is only possible through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and the wider community.
